Mexico City is absolutely amazing! I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but I honestly wasn’t expecting to like Mexico City. I originally planned to spend 2 days tops in the city, and then move on to the surrounding local villages. Boy was I wrong! I fell in love with Mexico City, and ended up spending 6 out of a 7 day in the city. It was hard to pull me away, but I finally decided to take a quick overnight trip to the small town of Puebla.
I spent a few days in the historic center, and it was the perfect way to start the trip. The Zocalo, or historic center, of Mexico City is extremely quaint. The architecture of the main plaza and Cathedral is stunning! I particularly loved the rooftop views from La Terraza.
I made a special trip out to the Coyoacan neighborhood to visit the Frida Kahlo Museum and wander around the charming neighborhood. I couldn’t miss going to Xochimilco to visit the canals and gondolas, so I made a trip there, too!
After a few days in the city center, I then headed out to Roma Norte and stayed there for a few nights. This was when I truly fell in love with Mexico City. I was shocked by the mixture of historical charm and elegance of the La Roma and La Condesa neighborhoods. The architecture alone is just mesmerizing! Here you’ll find the cutest cafés, boutiques, and trendy restaurants. This area had my name written all over it. ?
And finally, the cherry on top to an already amazing trip was taking a hot air balloon ride over the Teotihuacan Pyramids. This has been a bucket list item for years, and it was an absolute dream. I took the sunrise tour over the pyramids, and then was able to tour the pyramids themselves. The whole experience was fantastic and made my trip to Mexico City one that I will never forget. ?
